- ======= Can refer to any item or section of information - a
- WHAT IS word, a sentence, a paragraph, a screen or an entire
- A NODE? file. Whenever a hypertext system user invokes a link
- ======= <3A263A3 LINK>, he or she literally proceeds to a file
- <3A263A5 FILE>. But in hypertext terms, rather than
- computer or DOS terms, the information which appears on
- the computer monitor's screen is called a node. In
- other words, files actually contain nodes, which may be
- either a word, sentence, paragraph or screen
- containing information; an entire file can also be
- called a node.

- ======== Usually a node is self-contained in meaning. That is,
- A NODE the meaning of information contained in a node is
- IS complete and understandable in itself, and does not
- COMPLETE require further reference to more information in order
- ======== to be comprehensible.

- ========= Links, however, usually are constructed to other nodes
- THE HEART and from other nodes in order to provide further
- OF meaning for the user to access which increases
- HYPERTEXT understanding of the node in view. Such systems of
